UPDATED -- foxnews' racism -- jefferson indictment -- images of the most interesting tidbits. . .

fox news has now made, in
my view, a fair correction
[with a h/t to TPM for both!]

june 6, 2007 -- 4 p.m.

june 5, 2007 -- 3 p.m.

while fox offered a half-
hearted correction -- it
did not apologize to rep.
conyers
, nor acknowlege that
he was depicted as an indicted,
allegedly-corrupt, congressman. . .

see this:

so -- rep. conyers had this
to say about it, this afternoon:
Yesterday, Fox News Channel broke the story of Rep. William Jefferson's indictment with video of House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers greeting Attorney General Alberto Gonzales at a recent Judiciary Committee hearing. The network apologized on-air for airing the wrong video; however, they did not personally apologize to Mr. Conyers or describe the video they aired the previous day. Chairman Conyers responded today:

"Fox News has a history of inappropriate on-air mistakes that are neither fair, nor balanced. This type of disrespect for people of color should no longer be tolerated. I am personally offended by the network's complete disregard for accuracy in reporting and lackluster on-air apology."

-- House Judiciary Committee
Chairman John Conyers, Jr.

josh marshall at talkingpointsmemo
has a disgusting fox-news-ism on the
below story -- for a while this after-
noon, fox news was running extended
file footage of rep. john conyers, yes,
the sitting chair of the house judiciary
committee, NOT WILLIAM JEFFERSON, as the
b-roll behind their indictment story.

yeah -- i know -- they "all look alike",
to those fox news political editors, right?

this is outrageous. in fact -- take
a look for yourself -- i just noticed
that josh's piece is a youtube (share-
friendly) shockwave flash load-able:

or hit this link. . .

in case you were unable to see it,
the piece of tape chosen for the b-roll
was particularly ironic, and egregious,
since it featured -- for perhaps 19 full
seconds -- rep. conyers greeting one alberto
gonzales
, in the judiciary committee hearing
room, whilst a pink sign captioned "RESIGN"
floated overhead, in the gallery. . . yes, the
footage was from GONZALES' hearing -- and the
sign was a request for gonzales to resign, not
rep.-conyers-cum-rep.-jefferson. . . as of
9:53 p.m. eastern, no correction has appeared
on the fox news website. . .

i've offered some input to:

politics@foxnews.com

perhaps you'd like to do the same. . .

i've also let rep. conyers' staff
know -- i hope they press for a public
apology, and a prominent correction. . .

~~~~~~~~~~~
so -- now, i don't think i'll offer
anything more than the facing sheet
summary of the jefferson indictment [click
to view full-size image] -- though i
do believe in just "calling balls
and strikes
" on public corruption:
